DNEPROPETROVSK, UKRAINE Viktor Sayenko and Igor Suprunyuk were two 19-year-old Ukrainian serial killers who earned the nickname ‘Dnepropetrovsk maniacs’. During their active period from June 25, 2007 to July 16, 2007, they committed 21 murders. In addition, they also committed crimes, such as theft, or torturing and killing animals. A third conspirator, Alexander Hanzha, who was the same age, helped them with the thefts.

They all met in elementary school at the age of 14. They started murdering sweaty dogs and cats. They then hung their dead bodies on trees and took pictures of everything. They also painted Nazi symbols on the dead bodies. In one of the photos, they are captured howling.
After animals, however, they moved on to murdering people. They mostly used a hammer for them. Their victims had common features because they were weaker than them – old people and women. They killed for fun and profit. They have never committed, for example, sexual violence.
Their first known victim was a woman – 33-year-old Yekaterina Ilchenko, who was attacked while returning home from her boyfriend. On June 25, 2007, she was hit in the side of the head with a hammer. Her dead body was found the next morning.
Only an hour after the first murder was committed, they murdered a second time. Their victim this time was homeless Roman Tatarevich, who was sleeping on a bench near the scene of the first murder. They smashed his head with a hammer.
On July 1, 2007, they looked for more victims in the nearby city of Novomoskovsk. This time they were Yevgenia Grischenko and Nikolai Serchuk. The murders again had the same modus operandi.
Five days later, they murdered three more victims: Egor Nechvoloda – a discharged army recruit who was beaten to death on his way home from a night club. Yelena Shram, 28-year-old night guard. And another woman, the mother of three children, Valentina Hanzha.
On July 7, 2007, they attacked two 14-year-old boys who were out fishing. One of them, Andrei Sidyuk, was murdered, but the other, Vadim Lyakhov, managed to escape from the scene.
On July 12, 2007, 48-year-old Sergei Yatzenko was murdered. His body was found three days later. Despite the decomposition of the corpse due to the summer heat, it was obvious at first glance that he had been violently murdered.
Two days later, they attacked 45-year-old Natalia Mamarchuk in the forest, where she arrived on her scooter. Again she was beaten in the head with a hammer. Several witnesses saw this murder. The killers panicked, got on her scooter and drove away from the scene. Couldn’t catch them.
13 more murders followed until July 16, 2007. Often multiple victims were found on the same day. The modus operandi is always the same.
They videotaped many of the murders. It is speculated that they made the videos because they were selling them to the owner of a snuff website who paid them for them. But this information was never confirmed.
In addition to the aforementioned photos of dead animals hanging from a tree, a video of one of the murders, titled ‘3 Guys, 1 Hammer’, has also made its way onto the internet. It was captured on July 12, 2007 and depicts the murder of 48-year-old Sergei Yatzenko. He is lying in a wooded area on his back. The attackers beat him on the head with a hammer. They also stab him in the eyes and stomach with a screwdriver.
