PIRKKALA, FINLAND – MAY 20, 2025 16-year-old student, whose identity was revealed only as “Alex,” attacked three classmates with a knife at the Vähäjärvi primary and secondary school. Fortunately, his attack was not fatal and he only injured them. All the victims were girls under 15 years old.

He deliberately prepared for the attack and even wrote something like a manifesto. However, it is more like a description of his personality, including what kind of computer games he likes to play. He stated that his goal was to kill at least one person and injure two others. He also said he wanted to attack girls because they are easier victims and he feels that killing or injuring a girl would bring him more satisfaction. The motive was reportedly to experience some excitement in life and to get into prison.

The Vähäjärvi school, located about 180 kilometers north of Helsinki, provides education for children from preschool age up to 9th grade. After the tragic incident, Finnish Minister of Education Anders Adlercreutz expressed support for the school, the affected families, and the entire school staff.
