VILLA MARÍA DEL TRIUNFO, PERU – APRIL 13, 2025 Peruvian district of Villa María del Triunfo, located right next to the capital city Lima, has been shaken by the brutal murder of 19-year-old Mercedes Angelita Sánchez Querevalú. Her body was found dismembered and buried in the José Gálvez neighborhood.
According to all available information, she left on April 6 to visit a family acquaintance, 50-year-old Esteban Chicche Sully, who worked as a mototaxi driver. She wanted to settle some debts with him, but she never returned home. Esteban had no intention of paying. Instead, he raped and murdered her.
Her mother reported her missing the very next day. When Mercedes left, she had promised to return home soon. However, the police allegedly responded with indifference for a long time, and despite having information about a suspect, they did nothing for days. Only on April 13 – after a week of pressure from the family and the public – did the investigation make any progress. On an abandoned property next to the suspect’s house, her dismembered remains were found buried in plastic bags.
Esteban Chicche Sully was arrested and immediately confessed to the murder. According to his statement, the killing took place inside his house. He claimed he had been planning it for a while because he was attracted to Mercedes. After sexually assaulting her, he strangled her with his own hands. He resorted to dismembering her body to make it easier to dispose of.
Mercedes was a young woman full of optimism and energy. She was very active on the social media platform TikTok, where users knew her as “Angelita.” She leaves behind one child.
