LIBERIA When the woman found out that her husband was cheating on her, she showed no mercy to his lover, even though it was her niece. She tied up her legs and beat her for several minutes with a belt and a wooden spoon.
Such violent punishments are deeply rooted in Liberian society and are even applied to children as a form of discipline. Up to 94% of children aged 2 to 14 there have experienced violence from their parents. Although the victim in the video is no longer a child, the footage clearly shows why corporal punishment should never be normalized in society. Children who are beaten often grow up to be violent adults who know no other way to solve their problems than through violence.
