SUDAN Video leaked online showing a RSF soldier (one of the ruling factions in the civil war) executing a civilian. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident, and some media outlets describe the current situation in Sudan as genocide. Civilians are frequently targeted by both warring sides, though the RSF attacks them far more systematically.
The attacks on civilians aim to spread fear and enforce obedience. Certain ethnic groups are deliberately targeted to solidify RSF control over captured territories. Economically motivated attacks, aimed at killing and looting, are also not uncommon.
Sudan has been at war since April 2023. The army (SAF), together with the RSF, participated in the ousting of former President Omar al-Bashir. However, they failed to agree on who would take power afterward. The conflict has engulfed the entire country, caused a humanitarian crisis, and forced millions to flee.
