RUDRAPUR, UTTARAKHAND, INDIA – AUGUST, 2025 At a chaotic intersection in Rudrapur, a tragic traffic accident claimed the life of a man identified as Surendra Singh. He was riding on a motorcycle with a companion, attempting to navigate the busy intersection. They entered the blind spot of a garbage truck driver, who did not see them and continued driving. His passenger managed to jump clear and avoid almost certain death, but Surendra was not so lucky. The garbage truck ran over him, crushing him to death.
The grieving widow of the victim stated that the loss is felt deeply by her and the entire family, not only emotionally. Surendra was the breadwinner for the whole family, responsible for household finances, education, and the future wedding of their daughter.
The incident sparked local protests from residents, expressing concern over overloaded garbage trucks as well as other heavy vehicles on the roads. They blame authorities, who they say failed to ensure public safety.
It also serves as a reminder to every motorcyclist that large vehicles, such as trucks or buses, have significant blind spots, particularly the area directly in front under the driver’s cab. Riding too close in front of a truck is always dangerous, as the driver is almost certain not to see you. It is crucial to anticipate and think ahead for the actions of other drivers.
