MEXICO CITY, MEXICO – SEPTEMBER 10, 2025 In the Iztapalapa district, a tragic incident occurred, resulting in the deaths of at least 8 people and injuring another 90, 19 of them seriously. A tanker carrying 12,900 gallons (49,000 liters) of liquefied LPG overturned under the Puente de la Concordia highway overpass, causing a massive explosion and subsequent fire.
Witnesses reported that the explosion was so powerful that people outside the direct reach of the flames were injured by the blast wave or thermal radiation. Unfortunately, children were among the injured, including an infant and a two-year-old. Of the 19 seriously injured, some suffered burns over up to 100% of their bodies. Thirty-two vehicles were also affected, either completely destroyed or severely damaged.
The tanker allegedly belonged to the transport company Silza, which denied ownership, arguing that they never received permission to transport LPG. Authorities have launched an intensive investigation to determine the owner of the tanker, the cause of the accident, and to hold those responsible accountable.
