TRUJILLO, PERU – SEPTEMBER, 2025 23-year-old Luis Anticona Gutiérrez became the victim of an extortion gang kidnapping. On September 6, 2025, he got into a taxi, and he was never seen at home again. On September 8, 2025, his family received photos and a video showing that Anticona had been murdered. The kidnappers also demanded 20,000 soles (around $5,200 USD) for the release of his remains for burial.

Police are currently intensively investigating his death and trying to identify the kidnappers. One theory being considered is that someone tried to disguise the execution as a ransom kidnapping, since it is strange that no ransom was requested while the victim was still alive. The kidnappers didn’t even wait for any response from his family, as his burned remains were found shortly afterward.
The victim’s parents stated that they rule out any connection between their son and local organized crime. He was reportedly a decent man, making a living as a municipal services worker.
