ABUJA, NIGERIA – SEPTEMBER 12, 2025 Three alleged robbers became the target of a lynch mob in Nigeria’s capital. They were suspected of attacking a woman and stealing her handbag. The incident took place in front of Chicken House Junction, Wuse 2.
Angry residents used wooden sticks and stones to attack them, showing no mercy even when the suspects were already lying motionless in a pool of their own blood.
Two of them were rescued by police, who dispersed the mob upon arrival. They were taken to the hospital in critical condition, where doctors managed to stabilize them. The third suspect died at the scene.
Although no one involved in the lynching was arrested at the scene, a police spokesperson stated that the investigation is ongoing and the perpetrators are being actively pursued. One of the main pieces of evidence is a publicly released video.
Lynching remains a serious problem in Nigeria, often fueled by public frustration over perceived inefficiencies in law enforcement. Mob justice, while illegal, continues to occur in both urban and rural areas, highlighting the urgent need for stronger policing and community education on the rule of law.
