She decided to take action, downloaded the video footage from the security cameras in the house, and reported him to the police. When he found out, he fled the home and is currently hiding from the law. The absurd part of the whole situation is the fact that he was the one meant to uphold the law – he worked as a municipal police officer.
Perpetrators of domestic violence are often the kind of men no one around them would suspect. They take care to maintain appearances in public and systematically isolate their victim from family and friends. But once the doors of their home close, they turn into different people. In general, it is recommended that victims of domestic violence collect any audio-visual evidence against the perpetrator, because without it, it may come down to one person’s word against the other’s.
She published the footage to give strength to other victims of domestic violence. The biggest step a victim can take is not just recording evidence. It is realizing that their husband or wife, boyfriend or girlfriend, is a domestic abuser. It is also about finding the courage to do something about it.
