MEDELLÍN, COLOMBIA – SEPTEMBER 15, 2025 In the La Minorista area, at the intersection of 55th and 57th streets, a Metroplús bus collided with a pedestrian who was carelessly trying to cross the road. The person hit was a homeless man, who remained seriously injured on the road.
Immediately after the accident, other homeless people and bystanders gathered around the bus, blaming the driver and attempting to lynch him. They attacked the bus by throwing stones, kicking it, and threatening to set it on fire.
In a desperate effort to protect his own life and that of the passengers, the bus driver made a drastic decision. He pressed the accelerator, broke through the crowd, and ran over the homeless man, dragging him several feet, which effectively killed him.
The driver was fully aware of the gravity of the situation and did not try to flee or evade the law. He stopped at the next station and waited for the dispatcher and police to arrive. During questioning, he stated that if he hadn’t acted, he believed his life and the lives of the passengers would have been in danger because the crowd would have lynched him.
Police are currently investigating to determine whether he bears criminal responsibility for his actions.
