Members of a drug cartel went really far this time. The death of their rival was not enough for them; they brutally mutilated him postmortem. They skinned his head and gouged out his eyes with their bare hands. Such videos are made as proof of work for their superiors but are also intended to intimidate their rivals.
Cartel members are often long-term exposed to brutal violence, which causes numbness to suffering. They often see their victims only as objects, not as people. Rarely can anything like empathy be observed in them. They do not show it in court, and in prison, they usually continue cooperating with their cartel.
Murder, torture, or mutilation are not seen as evil in the eyes of a cartel member. They are just tools to achieve a goal. The value of human life for them is only as much as a person is useful to their organization. Socio-economic factors from their upbringing also play a role. From an early age, survival takes priority over moral principles because they often grew up in poverty.
In part, many people unknowingly support cartels with their actions. 90% of cocaine sold in the U.S., 70% in the European Union, and 60% in Australia passes through South American or Mexican drug cartels. Even if your dealer seems like a nice person and you do not notice it from the safety of your country, cocaine is almost always bloody, and videos like these are a strong reason to say no to cocaine and other drugs.
