AL-FASHIR, SUDAN – OCTOBER 28, 2025 Members of the paramilitary anti-government group RSF stormed a local hospital, launching a large-scale assault on civilians that can only be described as a massacre. Some estimates claim that as many as 460 people were killed. The militants fired indiscriminately at everyone – patients, visitors, doctors, and nurses alike.
The incident occurred shortly after RSF units seized control of the regional capital. Up to 35,000 people were forced to flee their homes, most seeking refuge in nearby rural areas. U.S. Senator Jim Risch, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, stated that the RSF should be designated a foreign terrorist organization.
The RSF (Rapid Support Forces) is a Sudanese paramilitary organization originally formed as a special unit to fight rebels in Darfur. Over time, it evolved into a powerful armed group with its own structure, funding, and commander, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti.
The RSF has been responsible for numerous war crimes, massacres, and ethnic cleansings, and since 2023 has been waging a bloody civil war against the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) for control of the country. Today, it is considered one of the most dangerous armed factions in Africa.
