MUMBAI, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA – OCTOBER 29, 2025 24-year-old Somnath Dixit got into trouble while swimming in Powai Lake and began to drown. Several witnesses gathered at the shore, who called the fire department, but none of them dared to jump into the water. Before the firefighters arrived, Somnath drowned. When his body was pulled to the shore, a doctor confirmed his death.
The video is currently circulating on social media, where bystanders are being criticized for not jumping into the water to help him. In reality, they were only following the first and most important rule of first aid, which states that you must not endanger your own life while providing help. However, the truth remains that they could have done more than just record the video – for example, asking random passersby if any of them were good swimmers.
