CULIACÁN, SINALOA, MEXICO – OCTOBER 17, 2025 Two traffic police officers fell victim to cartel gunmen. The attack took place at the intersection of Pedro del Tovar and Antonio Ruiz streets, in the San Rafael neighborhood, where the uniformed officers were surprised by gunfire while on patrol duty. Before they could react in any way to the attack, both were dead. The victims were identified as 45-year-old Luis Alberto Morán Ramírez and 39-year-old Iris Irene Félix Acosta.

According to witness statements, the attackers arrived at the scene in a white Jeep, armed with long guns and tactical gear. Police helicopters were even deployed to track down the vehicle and capture the perpetrators. Apparently, this was ultimately successful. Four men were arrested shortly afterward in connection with the attack.
