PHROM PHIRAM DISTRICT, PHITSANULOK, THAILAND Moored raft with floating fish baskets and a fisherman aboard was carried away by the swollen Nan River. A rescue operation was hastily organized at a nearby bridge, where locals and the sub-district chief tried to help him grab onto the bridge and pull him ashore.
The attempt failed disastrously. The river carried the fisherman downstream before the rescuers could prepare or organize themselves, leaving everyone to watch helplessly as he was swept away.
The tragedy culminated when the fisherman hit an overhead electrical wire. A powerful electric current struck his head, setting his body on fire, and he fell into the raging river, vanishing from the witnesses’ view.
