INDIA Passenger fell directly under a train while trying to board it in motion. The train amputated his left leg. Other passengers immediately pulled the emergency brake and helped provide first aid. They placed him on a stretcher back onto the train, which took him to the nearest town with a hospital.
Train culture in India is wilder than in other parts of the world. It is common to see people boarding or exiting a moving train. People often risk their lives because of financial constraints or lack of alternative transportation. Every year, thousands of injuries and hundreds of deaths occur in India due to boarding moving trains.
