ESCUINTLE, GUATEMALA – NOVEMBER, 2025 Tragic incident occurred in which a security guard lost his life. Attackers stormed a local supermarket in Zone 1, shot the guard, and stole his service weapon before managing to escape.
The victim, 48-year-old Hugo René Hernández García, was transported to Seguro Social hospital by volunteer firefighters. Despite rapid medical attention, he died from gunshot wounds to his head, neck, and back.
Investigators are considering two possible scenarios. The first suggests a botched robbery, while the second indicates the attackers may have come to collect extortion payments and killed the guard after an inadequate response. Authorities are still examining the circumstances to determine the exact motive.
