NIGERIA – NOVEMBER, 2025 Between November 5 and 8, an intense battle occurred between two terrorist groups, ISWAP (the African branch of ISIS) and Boko Haram. The fighting took place in the Lake Chad region in the northeast of the country. According to all available information, Boko Haram attacked ISWAP positions using waterways, motorboats, and heavy weapons. Estimates report up to 200 deaths on the ISWAP side and 4 on the Boko Haram side.
The factions mainly compete over territory. This is especially significant in the Lake Chad area, as the lake lies on the borders of Nigeria, Chad, and Cameroon. Important smuggling routes pass through this region.
