RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL Man attacked a police officer inside one of Rio’s favelas. The officer immediately responded by shooting the attacker in the leg with his service weapon. The attacker fell to the ground instantly, screaming in pain. He was arrested and will face charges for assaulting a police officer.
It’s important to note that most favelas are not patrolled by regular police due to gang presence. In such areas, special police units like BOPE intervene. However, there are exceptions in pacified favelas where no gang exerts control. Regular police patrol these areas several times a week or even maintain police stations there.
