Man was walking calmly down the street when he was suddenly struck by a heart attack. Without warning, he collapsed to the ground in front of several dozen confused witnesses. He was later unfortunately pronounced dead. The incident was recorded by a security camera.
Each such case of sudden death offers important lessons. The first is realizing how fragile life is and how it can end at any moment. One should not unnecessarily delay truly important things, such as family relationships and similar matters. The second lesson is the prevention of heart failure. Most heart attacks can be detected early during preventive doctor visits. The third lesson is understanding that we never know when we will need to provide first aid. It is definitely wise to be prepared and attend a first aid course in your city. It is a lifelong skill that can save lives.
First aid in similar situations involves calling an ambulance and monitoring vital signs until they arrive. If the heart stops beating, CPR must be started immediately. Proper CPR is performed by compressing the chest 100 – 120 times per minute to a depth of about 2 inches (6 cm). It is also good to know that in developed countries, AED stations can be found in busy public areas. An AED is a portable device stored in a clearly marked public cabinet that guides even laypeople through delivering a safe electric shock during cardiac arrest, potentially saving a life.
