GUAYAQUIL, ECUADOR – DECEMBER 3, 2025 Police chase of suspects accompanied by gunfire claimed one human life. Unfortunately, it was not the life of the suspect, nor the police officer who voluntarily risks his life on duty, but that of a random woman carrying a child. She was at the intersection of Tungurahua and Quisquís streets in the city center when she was struck directly in the head by one of the stray bullets fired by a police officer. She was dead at the scene.
Besides this woman, a man was also hit by a stray bullet, but he only suffered minor injuries. It later emerged that the police were pursuing two suspected perpetrators of a city bus robbery, both of Venezuelan nationality. Both were eventually apprehended.
