MAJEL BEL ABBES, TUNISIA – JANUARY 22, 2026 Tunisian security forces successfully eliminated four men who formed a terrorist cell in the area near the city of Majel Bel Abbes. According to a statement from the Tunisian Ministry of Interior, the military operation was carried out after several days of surveillance. They added that similar operations continue across the country.
Since 2011, Tunisia has faced increasing terrorist activity, resulting in the deaths of dozens of security and military personnel, as well as civilians and foreign tourists. On March 18, 2015, two armed attackers linked to ISIS attacked the Bardo Museum. The attack left 22 dead, including foreign tourists. On June 26, 2015, an armed attacker connected to ISIS opened fire on a beach in Sousse near a hotel resort. 38 people were killed and 39 injured – mostly foreign tourists.
