MANTA, ECUADOR – FEBRUARY 22, 2026 Two sisters, María (37) and Génesis (29) López, were murdered in the Solca sector while returning to their home in Montecristi. Their black Chevrolet vehicle was blocked by an armed commando, which opened fire on the occupants.
The older sister, María, died instantly in the passenger seat. The younger, Génesis, was transported to the hospital with severe injuries but died shortly after arrival. The driver of the vehicle, who is a cousin of both women, survived the attack with serious injuries and remains in critical condition.
