HATIPARA, MANIKGANJ DISTRICT, BANGLADESH – APRIL, 2026 Three men accused of raping and murdering an only 8-year-old girl experienced the anger of the crowd. When this information spread around the area, local residents decided to take justice into their own hands and lynched all three to death. The participants of the lynching expressed doubts regarding justice from the state.
Although people sometimes have reasons that at first glance can justify lynching, the fact remains that lynching is a gross violation of basic human rights. The one who commits it can expose themselves in the eyes of the law to bigger problems than the suspect himself. Even the worst criminal has the right to a fair trial and punishment according to the law. Never take part in a lynching and always call the police to the scene.
