ISTANBUL, TURKEY – OCTOBER 14, 2008 Ömür Milkaya was a 37-year-old man from Istanbul who, according to Turkish media, had an extensive criminal past. In the past, he was repeatedly convicted of violent crimes, including murder and bodily harm, and in total he spent approximately 18 years in prison. He allegedly belonged among the people of Nuri Ergin, known as the leader of the Karagümrük gang, and he got out of prison only a few months ago.
Milkaya died during an armed attack in the Balat neighborhood when he was riding through Sultançeşmesi Street at night on a motorcycle. Unknown perpetrators set up an ambush for him and opened crossfire on him. They hit him in several parts of the body and he died at the scene. His body was subsequently transported for a forensic autopsy after an examination.
