IRAN, 2026 On February 28, 2026, Israel, in cooperation with the USA, launched a military operation against the Iranian regime. Hundreds of military targets were selected in the country, which were then subjected to air strikes using bombers, ballistic missiles, and drones.
The aim of the attacks was primarily to deter future threats from the Iranian nuclear program and the overthrow of the Iranian regime. Iranian citizens themselves had been attempting this since December 2025, when they massively protested in the country. However, the regime violently suppressed the protests and even shut down the internet across the country to prevent protesters from organizing.
In recent days, photos have begun appearing on the internet that allegedly document civilian casualties of these airstrikes. For the sake of neutrality, it should be noted that the photos are shared by strongly pro-Iranian sources, whose authenticity cannot be verified in any way. Some of these sources have in the past shared demonstrably false pro-regime propaganda bordering on conspiracy theories.
Official figures provided by the USA and Israel report 1,700 deaths, including about 250 children. While neither the USA nor Israel deny civilian casualties and justify them as necessary losses due to preventing a greater threat or the presence of military targets in densely populated areas, the Iranian side claims that the attacks were aimed at civilians.
