The footage shows the brutal aftermath of the bombing of the city – the dead are lying on the ground among the rubble, while survivors run around in confusion and try to provide first aid to the injured.
In the Gaza Strip there is an enormous population density and it is common that military targets are also in populated areas. Hamas moreover abuses buildings protected by international law, such as schools and hospitals – they have headquarters or weapon depots there. Waging war under these conditions is difficult and civilian casualties are unavoidable.
