TINZAOUATEN, MALI – JULY, 2024 In northern Mali near the border with Algeria, a battle lasting several days took place between Tuareg rebels and units of the Malian army supported by Russian mercenaries. The clashes occurred in the Tinzaouaten area and, according to available information, claimed dozens of dead, including a large number of Russian fighters.
The rebels attacked a military convoy as part of an ambush and during the fighting reportedly destroyed several vehicles and captured weapons. Footage from the battlefield later appeared on the internet showing destroyed equipment and dead soldiers. The incident is among the largest losses of Russian mercenary forces in Mali in recent years.
