Woman underwent a cosmetic procedure known as a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) to enhance and reshape her buttocks. The procedure involves removing fat from another area of the patient’s body and injecting it into the buttocks. Several days later, she began developing painful lumps and discoloration of the skin. Her condition gradually progressed to tissue necrosis. By the time she sought medical attention, the damage was severe enough that doctors had to remove the dead tissue.
A Brazilian butt lift is considered a relatively safe cosmetic procedure. The overall rate of postoperative complications is estimated at around 6 to 13%, with only about 0.3% being similarly serious and fat necrosis occurring in approximately 0.09% of cases. If you undergo a BBL, follow your doctor’s postoperative instructions carefully and seek medical advice if you notice any unusual symptoms or complications.
