TELA, ATLÁNTIDA, HONDURAS – JANUARY, 2024 Thirty-five-year-old Aminta Loredey Guevara Fernández was fighting for her life after a serious motorcycle accident that led to her hospitalization. Doctors were treating her for severe injuries, especially internal injuries she suffered in the crash. Despite her medical condition, she managed to escape from the hospital ward.

Under circumstances that are still not fully explained, she bypassed or outsmarted hospital security and left the building on her own, on foot, wearing only a hospital gown. It is unclear whether she was disoriented, in shock, or acting under the influence of pain and trauma from the accident.
Several hours later, local residents came across her lifeless body lying on a sidewalk near the hospital. When they realized the woman was dead, they tried at least to preserve her dignity – they covered her body with large plant leaves before emergency responders and police arrived at the scene.
Given the circumstances of the case, speculation initially arose about whether the woman had been attacked or murdered after escaping from the hospital. However, the autopsy conducted in San Pedro Sula ruled out those concerns. Forensic experts found no signs of foul play, physical assault, or homicide on her body.
Investigators concluded that Aminta died solely as a result of extensive internal injuries sustained in the original motorcycle accident. Her body had been so severely damaged that without continuous medical care, her condition rapidly collapsed.
