MEIHANEH VILLAGE, TARA, TILABARI, NIGER – JUNE 26, 2026 ISIS, or more precisely one of its African branches, carried out an armed attack on a pickup truck belonging to the Nigerien army. The soldiers were suddenly ambushed, and unfortunately they were unable to repel the attack – all of them were killed.
The attack took place in a geographic region known as the Sahel. It is a wide belt stretching across Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Chad, and Sudan. Recently, it has been associated with terrorist activity and increasing instability. The region is sparsely populated, and governments there do not have as much control. This is exploited by groups such as ISIS, al-Qaeda, as well as many local bandits.
