UKRAINE Russian soldiers cut off the head of their Ukrainian enemy and kept it as a war trophy. One of them willingly poses for photos with the head. It is not known whether the head was separated from the body after death or whether the soldier was executed using this method. However, both cases could mean that the Russian soldiers committed a war crime.
The treatment of the dead bodies of soldiers is regulated by the Geneva Convention and its additional protocols. All parties to a conflict should treat the dead with dignity. Any mutilation or looting of corpses is strictly prohibited.
