WESTON, SABAH, MALAYSIA – AUGUST 6, 2026 Tragic accident occurred in which three police officers from the local Weston police station died. The men were electrocuted after a long metal pole used for harvesting coconuts came into contact with overhead power lines.
The victims were Corporal Chiu Teck Siong (40), Lance Corporal Mohamad Nur Hafiz Ibrahim (29), and Constable Muhammad Raimi Ismarubee (26). According to preliminary information, the officers had finished harvesting coconuts, and the accident occurred while they were handling the long metal pole.
When the first man suffered an electric shock, the other two officers attempted to help him. However, when they came into contact with the victim, they were also electrocuted. All three died at the scene before emergency responders arrived.
Emergency crews first had to secure the area and wait for the power lines to be disconnected. The case was then taken over by police, and an investigation is underway into the circumstances that led to the metal object coming into contact with the power lines.
In similar situations, the most important thing is to not put your own life at risk first. A person who has been electrocuted must not be touched until the electricity supply has been safely cut off, because the current can also affect rescuers. Only after the area is safe should first aid be provided and CPR started if necessary.
