UPPER ORAKZAI, KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA, PAKISTAN – MAY 31, 2013 Attack by armed members of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was carried out against a military outpost. At the time, the area was the scene of intense fighting between Pakistani security forces and TTP militants.
According to available information, the militants captured the outpost during the attack and seized the soldiers’ weapons and personal belongings. The captured security personnel were subsequently killed, and the militants recorded the aftermath of the attack. The footage was reportedly intended as a tool of psychological warfare and intimidation against other Pakistani soldiers.
TTP, known as the Pakistani Taliban, is an armed Islamist organization founded in 2007 that seeks to overthrow the Pakistani government and establish its own interpretation of Islamic law. The group has waged a long-running insurgency against the Pakistani military and security forces and has been responsible for numerous terrorist attacks targeting both soldiers and civilians.
