BACABAL, MARANHÃO, BRAZIL – AUGUST 26, 2026 36-year-old teacher identified as Ilanna Cristina Vale Barbosa died in an accident while riding her motorcycle. The tragedy occurred on BR-316 near the Mangueira neighborhood as the woman was returning home from the school where she worked on a Honda Biz motorcycle.

According to initial information, Ilanna fell onto the roadway and was subsequently run over by a dump truck. The truck was seized by police, while its driver fled the scene of the accident without providing assistance to the woman.
Later, the driver’s lawyers went to the police with a different version of events. They claim that Ilanna was improperly overtaking before the accident, lost control of the motorcycle, and fell before the truck struck her. The exact circumstances of the accident and any responsibility on the part of the driver are currently being investigated by police.
Ilanna Cristina Vale Barbosa taught fifth grade at UEF Chagas Araújo school. Following her death, the school canceled classes during the afternoon and evening shifts. The woman is survived by her husband and daughter.
