SANGATTA, EAST KALIMANTAN, INDONESIA – AUGUST 26, 2026 21-year-old Desi Ariyanti was found dead in her rented room. The case was discovered by the lodging owner after one of the tenants alerted him to blood flowing from underneath the room’s door. An unpleasant odor was also coming from the room. When police arrived, the woman was found hanging from black fabric near the entrance to the room.
A forensic team estimated that Desi had died approximately three to four days before she was found. Her body was subsequently taken to a hospital for a forensic autopsy. Police have not yet determined the exact cause of death and are awaiting the results.
According to the owner, Desi was last seen on August 15 with an unidentified man, who subsequently left the lodging. The case therefore cannot yet be definitively classified as either suicide or murder. Police are continuing their investigation.
