SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA, USA – DECEMBER 2, 2015 Married couple Syed Rizwan Farook (28) and Tashfeen Malik (29) attacked employees of the county health department during a Christmas party at the Inland Regional Center. Farook was an employee of the health department and briefly attended the party before the attack.

The couple later returned to the location wearing tactical clothing and armed with rifles and handguns. They began shooting at the people present, killing 14 people and injuring another 22. Before the attack, they had also prepared an improvised explosive device, which failed to detonate.
After the attack, Farook and Malik fled in an SUV. Police later tracked them down, and during the ensuing shootout, both were killed. The subsequent investigation uncovered materials for making explosives and additional weapons at their home. The FBI classified the attack as an act of terrorism inspired by Islamist extremist ideology.
