PALHOÇA, SANTA CATARINA, BRAZIL – AUGUST 28, 2026 39-year-old woman died after being struck by lightning during a storm on Praia da Pinheira beach in Palhoça. At the time of the incident, she was walking along the beach with her partner, who was not injured in the incident.
The strike occurred at around 6:03 p.m. The woman immediately collapsed onto the sand after the electrical discharge. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found her unconscious, with no signs of vital functions and burns on her body. Before they arrived, a person who witnessed the incident attempted to help her.
Rescuers managed to restore her vital signs, and she was taken to an emergency department in Praia do Sonho. Due to her critical condition, she was subsequently intubated and transferred to Hospital Regional de São José, where she remained in intensive care.
Despite the doctors’ efforts, the woman died the following morning. Authorities had not released her identity at the time the reports were published. The moment she was struck was captured by a security camera, and footage of the incident subsequently appeared on social media.
