Pastor killed amid tribal violence in Papua

KAPIRAYA, CENTRAL PAPUA, INDONESIA – NOVEMBER 24, 2025 29-year-old pastor Neles Peuki, who served at the KINGMI church in Indonesian Papua, died during a violent conflict between local tribal communities. According to local media, Peuki was trying to find out what was happening in his community when he was attacked by an armed mob on the way. He suffered several injuries, but still managed to escape the attack. He was later found dead, however. His body was subsequently reportedly burned and buried.

The violence in the area also included the burning of houses, a church, and other buildings. According to all available information, the exact circumstances of Peuki’s death and the identities of those responsible have not been clarified. The church subsequently called on authorities to investigate the case and urged residents to avoid retaliatory violence.
