PÁTAPO, LAMBAYEQUE, PERU – AUGUST 19, 2026 48-year-old Alcides Mejía Bustamante died after being brutally attacked with a knife during a fight. The incident occurred in the evening at the Como en Casa restaurant and bar on Chongoyape Avenue, where Mejía Bustamante was drinking with his 60-year-old coworker, Alcibíades Muñoz Idrogo.

According to police information and security camera footage, an argument broke out between the men. Mejía Bustamante then struck Muñoz Idrogo several times in the head. Muñoz Idrogo subsequently went inside the establishment, took out a knife he was carrying, and, despite two women trying to prevent him from leaving, returned outside.
During the ensuing fight, Muñoz Idrogo reportedly stabbed Mejía Bustamante several times. He suffered at least five stab wounds to the chest, abdomen, forearm, and head. He attempted to strike the attacker with a rock but soon lost his strength and collapsed in the street.
Alcibíades Muñoz Idrogo was subsequently arrested by police at his home in Pósope Alto. The case was handed over to investigators and prosecutors. Later reports stated that a court ordered eight months of pretrial detention for Muñoz Idrogo while the investigation into suspected intentional homicide continued.
