CIDRA, PUERTO RICO – DECEMBER 7, 2021 Five men were shot during a brutal shootout in front of the La Lomita establishment in the Certenejas neighborhood. The attack occurred around 11:49 p.m., while approximately 40 people inside the establishment were celebrating its owner’s birthday.

Police identified Jonathan O’Neill Ortiz Castrodad, 27, known by the nickname “Ónix,” as the main target of the attack. Along with him, Andrés Manuel Bonilla Rivera, 38, Sebastián Figueroa Chamorro, 28, and José M. Delgado Rivers, 24, were shot and killed at the scene. The fifth victim, Brian Álvarez Carrión, 24, succumbed to his injuries two days later at a hospital in Río Piedras.

According to investigators, some of the attacked men were armed and returned fire during the attack. More than 180 shell casings were found at the scene. A security camera captured the shooters, who initially opened fire from a vehicle and then returned and continued shooting at the men lying on the ground.
Police investigated the case as possible retaliation connected to organized crime and drug gangs. A later investigation linked the massacre to an organization led by Nelson Torres Delgado, known as “El Burro.” José Enrique Ortiz Colón, nicknamed “Enky,” was also identified as one of the alleged shooters.
