SERTÃOZINHO, SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL – JUNE 10, 2019 Former military police officer Leonardo dos Reis Andrade, 41 to 43 years old according to different sources, shot and killed his wife, 39-year-old Rosa Ana Andrade, and their son, Bruno Aparecido Andrade, who was supposed to celebrate his 21st birthday that very day. He then took his own life.

According to police, Rosa and Bruno were shot in their bedrooms, apparently while they were sleeping. Leonardo later sent a message to a friend saying that he had “finished with the family” and asked him to call the police. The friend went to the house and, after getting no response, contacted police. Officers then found the bodies of all three family members inside.

Two firearms were recovered at the scene, including a .44-caliber carbine that was reportedly used in the killings. According to available reports, Leonardo became a businessman after leaving the military police and also worked as an engineer. The exact motive had not been determined at the time of the investigation. Police were only looking into the possibility that financial problems may have played a role.
