VĨNH CÔNG, TÂY NINH PROVINCE, VIETNAM – MAY 3, 2026 Tragic attack occurred around noon in the commune of Vĩnh Công. Thirty-year-old Nguyễn Tấn Phước, also known as Phú, reportedly attacked his wife, Đ.T.T., born in 1994, and their only two-month-old child with a knife, according to all available information. Neither survived the attack.
When Nguyễn Tấn Phước’s parents attempted to stop their son, he also attacked them with a knife, causing them several injuries. Neighbors who heard cries for help subsequently called the police.
Police officers subdued and arrested the man at the scene. Investigators are now determining the circumstances of the attack and, among other things, are investigating whether he was under the influence of drugs or other stimulants. Nguyễn Tấn Phước later died in a hospital from injuries he sustained during the attack. The case therefore never went to trial.
Later reports stated that despite his own injuries, the suspect’s father traveled to Cà Mau Province to apologize to his daughter-in-law’s family and say a final goodbye to her and his grandson.
