NEIVA, HUILA, COLOMBIA – OCTOBER 1, 2026 44-year-old Viviana Andrea Rodríguez was driving her two sons home after picking them up from school when her vehicle became caught in the middle of an armed attack near the El Tizón bridge. According to preliminary information, the shooters were targeting a man known as ‘Frijol’ or ‘Frijolito’, who was traveling on a motorcycle.

During the exchange of gunfire, bullets also struck the family’s vehicle. One of them hit Viviana Andrea Rodríguez in the head. The woman was taken to Medilaser Clinic but succumbed to her injuries. Her two sons survived the attack; according to some reports, one of them was also injured.
According to some local media reports, ‘Frijolito’ attempted to hide behind Viviana Andrea Rodríguez’s vehicle during the attack, leaving it directly in the line of fire. The man reportedly escaped unharmed and fled the scene.
According to an older record from the Colombian Prosecutor’s Office, the man is Royer Fernando Buendía, who was 23 when he was arrested in 2024 on suspicion of attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm. Police are continuing to investigate the case.
