PRESIDENTE EPITÁCIO, SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL – OCTOBER 24, 2026 34-year-old man lost his life after attempting to rob an off-duty police officer outside a pharmacy. The incident was captured by a security camera.
The 47-year-old military police officer had just arrived at the pharmacy when a man approached him and demanded the keys to his car. The officer, who had his children and another passenger inside the vehicle, identified himself and ordered the attacker to leave. However, the man continued behaving aggressively and attempted to physically assault the officer.
The officer initially shot the attacker in the leg. However, even the injury did not stop him from attempting to seize the officer’s firearm. A second shot followed, causing the man to collapse. Paramedics were called and transported him to Santa Casa de Presidente Epitácio Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police are investigating the case as a homicide committed in self-defense and an attempted robbery. The officer’s firearm was seized for forensic examination, and the officer himself was not arrested at the scene because the available evidence did not rule out legitimate self-defense.
