Enatan Duarte Silva fled the scene, but police arrested him the following morning. In addition to the alleged financial dispute, investigators also examined the possibility that the attack was connected to his unrequited romantic interest in the victim. The case was therefore also investigated as a possible feminicídio (gender-based murder of a woman).
