ITALY A 19-year-old girl from Italy suffered from anorexia and untreated depression. Her mental state deteriorated significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic, driving the girl to suicide.
She jumped out of the window of her room, which was about 20 metres above the ground. It is difficult to say whether this was her intention, but she landed on the railing, which pierced her head and left her hanging.
A casual witness to her suicide, a police examination of the scene and a forensic autopsy ruled out extraneous culpability. No suicide note was found in her room, but several text messages to her friends were found on her cell phone, where the girl complained of deep depression.
