BANDAR ABBAS, IRAN – APRIL 26, 2025 Massive and devastating explosion occurred at Iran’s Shahid Rajaee Port near the city of Bandar Abbas, resulting in at least 46 deaths and over 1,200 injuries. The death toll continues to rise.
According to available information, a fire broke out in one of the shipping containers and subsequently spread to others, leading to an explosion. The blast was reportedly heard as far away as Qeshm Island, about 16 miles (26 km) from the site. Tremors were even felt up to 31 miles (50 km) away.
The exact causes of this tragic incident are still under investigation by police and relevant authorities. Shahid Rajaee Port is the largest maritime hub in Iran, handling up to 90% of the country’s container shipping. The incident and the subsequent suspension of port operations have had a massive impact on Iran’s trade and logistics.
