CULIACÁN, SINALOA, MEXICO, 2013 Karla Contreras, a 19-year-old student of the Faculty of Accounting and Administration at the Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa (UAS) and winner of the school’s beauty queen contest, was assassinated. While driving her luxury Cadillac SUV in the Las Quintas neighborhood, a white van approached her and riddled her with bullets. The attackers’ motive was never clarified. However, there are certain speculations that she was cooperating with a local drug cartel.
